About the role.
The Financial Accountant will support the Financial Accounting team in building and maintaining a strong control environment, ensure compliance with all relevant statutory requirements and support the business in problem solving accounting issues, identifying risk and opportunities on the balance sheet and provide timely and accurate month end results.
This role also provides the opportunity to informally mentor and coach Assistant Accountants within the team on accounting concepts.

What’s involved:

  • Delivering end of month results (profit and loss / balance sheet) in a timely and accurate manner including proactively supporting the investigation and timely resolution of variances and risks and providing commentary on movements in accounts
  • Preparation and processing of accounting journals
  • Exposure to various accounting concepts including lease accounting, inventory management, management of provisions including annual leave and long service leave, management of accruals and prepayment schedules for various expenses
  • Proactively assist with:
  • finance related projects with a focus on process improvement
  • internal and external audit requirements
  • half year and year end Wesfarmers reporting obligations
  • monthly reporting to the ABS
  • Proactively review, maintain, and recommend changes to processes, controls and practices including documenting policies and assessing changes in accounting standards.

Who we’re looking for.
Our ideal candidate will have the knowledge and application of accounting standards and concepts to drive financial business outcomes and the willingness to continue to grow and develop in these areas.
They will be well placed to meet tight deadlines through proactively managing their time and priorities and being self driven in achieving outcomes.
Networking, collaboration and problem solving is a key aspect of this role therefore the ability to think critically and confidently and clearly communicate with different stakeholders from across the business is essential.

You’ll need:

  • Commerce or Business degree with relevant accounting and finance majors
  • CA or CPA qualified (or near completion) essential
  • Minimum 2 years of financial / corporate accounting service experience
  • Knowledge and application of accounting standards and concepts
  • Keen to continually learn and develop as a professional
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, team members and leaders.
  • Ability to drive business outcomes, meet deadlines and prioritise.
