Description:

Canadian Niagara Power Inc. (CNPI), located in beautiful Fort Erie, is looking for a Financial Analyst to perform a wide range of analytical accounting duties for the FortisOntario group of companies including but not limited to meeting reporting responsibilities to the parent company (Fortis Inc.), the Ontario Energy Board, Canada Revenue Agency, Statistics Canada and any other external agencies. This position will oversee the budget process, participate in Cost of Service applications, forecasting, business planning, pension filings and journal entries. This role reports into our Manager, Financial Planning and offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement with both remote and in-office work (there is a requirement to report into the office in Fort Erie a minimum number of days each week). The successful candidate will have strong analytical and financial systems troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities and work well in a team environment.

Key functions of the role:

  • Prepare and manage the budgeting process for the FortisOntario group of companies.
  • Prepare variance analysis, quality/completeness testing of budget inputs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the Executive Budget Presentations.
  • Prepare monthly managers’ report and assess the reasonableness of the variance analysis.
  • Prepare pension filings to Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario.
  • Preparing/provide support in the preparation of various journal entries as part of month-end close process.
  • Internal and external reporting and data analysis.
  • Quarterly preparation of audit binder sections.
  • Aid the department in streamlining document file management including the compilation and storage of business processes for various functions within the department.
  • Special projects and departmental support as required.

What makes you a successful candidate?

  • Post secondary education in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting and/or Finance.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (“CPA”) designation or actively enrolled in the CPA program.
  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience in corporate accounting environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting standards (GAAP/ASPE and USGAAP).
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suite (including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel) and Adobe.
  • Working Knowledge of SAP or other ERP system would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of OEB Regulatory Requirements and Framework would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work well independently.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
