Description:

Cando Rail & Terminals is a leading North American rail and terminal services provider with operations across Canada and the United States. Cando is the critical linchpin in supply chains, connecting industry to Class 1 railways.
Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst is primarily responsible for preparation and review of financial transactions and the financial results of a segment of the Company’s operating units. The successful candidate will be an individual with a strong accounting background, an analytical and critical thinking focus who can work with individuals across multiple disciplines to ensure accurate and timely financial results and feedback to the operations team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in core accounting processes is preferred.
  • Experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn, grow and develop in the role and into the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analysis of monthly business segment reporting to understand variances to budget and month-to-month fluctuations.
  • Collaboration with operations team to provide financial support where required, including financial analysis to understand the financial implications of ongoing projects, potential opportunities and/or problems experienced.
  • Review of purchasing transactions and assessment of required federal and provincial taxes to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • Preparation of monthly customer invoices in coordination with operations team.
  • Review of outstanding accounts receivable and support where required to ensure the timeliness of cash collections.
  • Perform bank and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts as required.
  • Other full-cycle accounting functions as required.
