Description:

JOB SUMMARY & REQUIREMENTS:

The financial analyst will report to and support the Finance Director, ensuring EarthRights’ International complies with internal control procedures and donor requirements. This position requires capacity in all aspects of financial administration, procurement, accounting, logistics and financial support to ensure strict adherence to internal controls, donor guidelines, mandated laws, proper record keeping, and efficient administration. The analyst will also work closely with the program team, coordinating with them to ensure the smooth running of operations and coherence of procedures and systems.
The overall responsibility of the Financial Analyst to handle and process assigned financial transactions, assist in cash management and check payments and receipts, and deliver routine day-to-day financial and accounting duties.

EDUCATION:

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience directly related to finance and/or accountancy and grant administration.
  • Prior experience working in the international NGO sector is essential.
  • Experience with US financial regulations and Tax system, and completing 1099 and 990 forms.

SKILLS:

  • Analyzing and problem-solving abilities
  • Orientation to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to support and cooperate with others, and to manage multiple tasks and prioritization.
  • Advanced IT skills and abilities (use of Microsoft Office, knowledge of accounting software (such as MIP fund accounting, SAP-Concur, Paychex etc)
  • Professional fluency in spoken and written English; spoken and written Spanish or Thai would be an advantage.
  • Familiarization with coordinating with government departments and/or revenue authorities is desirable.
    Security/legal checks: This job requires a background check.
    Location: Washington DC; hybrid work schedule. Candidate’s must have reliable transportation to commute to worksite.

Responsibilities:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial and Accounting tasks (40%)

  • Manage and deliver daily financial tasks and assist in providing general accounting and financial services in line with relevant requirements. Ensure all financial systems are up to date.
  • Maintain office accounting systems – all financial and related systems maintained to the standards of Essential Finance (corporate guidelines) and other key regulations.
  • Ensure registration forms, renewals, and any pertinent tax obligations and documentation are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations (bank, investment account, receivable, account payable) for review and approval.
  • Investigate, analyze and trouble-shoot reconciliation queries.
  • Prepare payroll and monitor settlement of staff travel and operational advances.
  • Enter and reconcile monthly expense reports from US, Amazon, and Mekong offices, prepare journal entries, and record all deposits.
  • Establish and manage accounting record keeping systems and procedures for tracking and reporting, including recommending remedial measures.
  • Assist with processing all payments including vendors invoices, individual reimbursements, and other accounts payable and receivables, and research discrepancies as required.
  • Work closely and support the Finance Director, Regional office operation and finance staff and program staff in the management of contracts and external suppliers.

GENERAL FINANCE TASKS (15%)

  • Review and produce financial data providing research and data analysis to present for use in planning and decision making.
  • Prepare multiple complex and varied financial reports (including ad hoc reports) that require selection, preparation, and interpretation of data using complex data query tools.
  • Prepare and make ready for review, and distribution and filing of Form 1099 and the annual organizational audit and Form 990.
  • Perform general ledger, income statement, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports based on project and company data.
  • Assist with donor audit and annual organization audits.
