Description:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in Accounting or Business Administration
  • Professional Accounting designation or actively pursuing a designation (senior level student)
  • Minimum three (3) years progressive accounting and budget analysis experience while working in a Finance department within a school board or other public sector entity

Responsibilities:

  • Monthly budget monitoring, reconciliations, variance analysis, projections, and financial reporting
  • Assist in preparation of Estimates, Revised Estimates and Financial Statements for Ministry of Education and board purposes
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger chart of account and reports
  • Responsible for appropriate accounting treatment of tangible capital assets
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues and staff in area of expertise, board procedures, Ministry financial requirements and accounting standards
  • Research, track and support funding changes as required
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, e.g., Ministry of Education, external auditors, financial institutions, and all levels of management
  • Complete Ministry (or other governing body) reports pertaining to spending on a per project/grant basis
  • Provide analysis and research backup for complex entries
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis under strict time constraints to support business decisions
  • Prepare and present accurate, timely and concise recommendations to support analysis and strategic priorities
  • Assist in process improvement opportunities which may involve re-engineering or enhancement of business processes for finance or business information systems
  • Other duties as required
