Position Title: Financial Analyst
Team & Location: Finance Canada - Calgary, AB
Salary: $67,680/year
Reporting to the Supervisor of MG&A, Business Strategy (BS), and Controls, this role will collaborate closely with diverse cross-functional teams to comprehend business intricacies and enhance the Balance Sheet and risk profile across various accounts and processes. The individual will aid in month-end activities, quarterly deliverables, balance sheet analysis and reconciliation, and the establishment of risk controls. Additionally, the Financial Analyst will contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, conduct process analysis, and identify potential risks. This position fosters close collaboration across the organization to enhance comprehension of Balance Sheet accounts and streamline operational processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Degree in Accounting, Business Finance or a related field
Professional accounting designation or working towards designation
2 to 3 years’ experience as an auditor
Strong understanding of financial systems, processes and internal controls
Working knowledge of GAAP (IFRS)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
Strong analytical and computer skills preferably JDE, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to think outside of the box and deal with ambiguity
Ability to build strong relationships within the team as well as within the business;
Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams
Self-starter and enthusiastic learner with demonstrated ability to multi-task and thrive in a high volume, fast-paced and evolving work environment
Well-organized and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to ensuring deadlines are maintained and achieved

Responsibilities:

Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and account balances are accurately stated in accordance with IFRS and Company policy
Promote a risk-aware culture that proactively seeks to mitigate risk where appropriate
As required, support the execution of the wider Risk & Controls work program, including internal audits, enterprise risk assessment processes and other consulting/project work.
Assess accounts for risk by identifying aged and unusual transactions
Continuously drive operational improvements and process efficiencies
Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans and recommendations, with follow up and support for resolutions.
Coordinate, perform and review month-end and quarter-end activities.
Monthly and quarterly sign off (One stream, resolver, narratives, etc. Help create control environment and risk register for Balance sheet reconciliation process)
As required, support business with miscellaneous journal entries
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide support for various projects and initiatives including system and process improvements, business development activities and the integration of acquisitions
