Job Purpose
The UK Financial Controller [UK FC] is responsible for the financial management of the operating activities of the UK divisions, namely Sales, Manufacturing and Group Services. This is a senior role within the CPL global finance team and will work closely with the CFO, Group FC, senior management of the UK Divisions and other members of the global finance team. A key element of this role is to business partner the management of the UK Sales and UK Manufacturing division. This role will be the primary day to day finance contact for the UK divisions.
Tasks and Responsibilities

Commercial

  • Support Sales in driving opportunities and setting targets.
  • Provide margin control and analysis to Sales.
  • Manage relationships with third-party agents and distributors.
  • Promote margin maximization initiatives across divisions.
  • Implement effective commercial processes for pricing, credit, and order management.
  • Conduct weekly debtors/collection meetings with Sales.
  • Actively manage customer collections and maintain the AR ledger.
  • Ensure accurate AR assignments and analyze customer/product categorizations.
  • Collaborate with UK management to achieve objectives.
  • Negotiate, administer, and control supplier and customer contracts.
  • Develop profitability, value chain, and productivity models for UK divisions.
  • Challenge profitability and costs to drive profit optimization.
  • Support new capex with business cases and track against approved benefits.

Control

  • Maintain and improve financial controls for UK divisions.
  • Manage external audits, liaising with auditors for timely inputs.
  • Ensure adherence to the global authority matrix.
  • Act as insurance contact and coordinate renewals and claims.
  • Maintain segregation of duties within the UK finance team.
  • Lead UK finance-related ERP developments, implementations, and training.
  • Document process maps and controls for financial operations per group policies.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including intergroup accounts.
  • Coordinate with Group Finance on accounting standards and cost accounting.
  • Provide inputs for transfer pricing and management fee recharges.
  • Handle payroll, BIKs, VAT, duty reporting, and compliance for the UK entity.
  • Ensure compliance with UK Government changes to VAT, digital tax, and IR35.
  • Manage workplace pension arrangements and participate in the governance committee.
  • Control property leases, service charges, and contracts for the UK entity.
  • Support annual tax returns and RDEC processes with CFO & GFC.
  • Manage UK company credit card processes and improvements.
  • Oversee CPL Aromas LTD bank accounts with Group Finance.
  • Manage UK company car arrangements per HR policy.
  • Handle petty cash processes for UK staff.

Reporting, Analysis, & Forecasting

  • Adhere to group finance timetables and requirements.
  • Provide timely, accurate performance reports to UK divisions.
  • Conduct investigative analysis into performance variances.
  • Provide insightful commentaries for management reporting.
  • Lead UK divisions’ forecasting processes per group requirements.
  • Establish efficient record-to-report processes for timely financial reports.
  • Utilize group reporting and consolidation software.
  • Maintain and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances.
  • Collaborate with Group Finance on reporting standards.
  • Maintain accurate cashflow forecasts for the UK entity.
  • Provide necessary inputs to Group Finance and update Power BI reports.
  • Business Partnership
  • Support Group Services, UK Manufacturing, and UK Sales with financial management and decision support analysis.

Management

  • Manage and motivate the UK Finance team (3 heads).
  • Set relevant job descriptions and objectives for the team.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Manage the finance team leave schedule.
  • Implement development plans for team members.
  • Brief the team on wider company business.
  • Undertake cross-functional and cross-division projects as needed.
  • Be an active member of the global finance team.

Skills and Attributes Required

  • A Professional accounting qualification
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Substantial D365 ERP experience in a Manufacturing setting
  • Strong working knowledge of Payroll, VAT, Duty, IPR, tax, pensions, FRS102 and other statutory requirements
  • Experience of working in a group of companies
  • Demonstrable management and leadership experience
  • Proven exceptional abilities in process management and working with detail
  • Effective written and verbal skills
  • Excellent Presentation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • A solution orientated attitude.
