SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Extensive full lifecycle experience in medium / high volume product development.
  • Can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Lead and Manage projects, collaborate with internal and external partners, participate in project meetings.
  • Excellent knowledge/experience of high-quality firmware development across a wide range of microcontrollers.
  • Bare metal / RTOS firmware development in C using IDE development tools e.g. Keil, GCC/Clang based IDEs (STM32CubeIDE, MCUXpresso, TI Code Composer Studio or similar)
  • Proficient working with electronic schematics and competent in using debuggers, logic analysers, oscilloscopes, DVMs

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

Imperial Brands is an inclusive, innovative global FMCG business supported by 25,000 employees and we are looking for a Firmware Development Engineer to join the team in Liverpool.
Working within the Device Engineering Team, this role will be for a Firmware Design Engineer on New Product Development projects within the R&D pillar of the Innovation function. The role plays a key part in device development for all new product development projects.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work with partners to develop designs through the full product lifecycle; from device specification, component selection, basic firmware development, through to manufacture, delivering prototypes and technical solutions for innovation projects. Collaborating with in house and partners’ firmware / hardware / mechanical engineers to deliver early “Next Generation Product” (NGP) prototypes as well as fully engineered final production devices.
  • Expertise in Firmware/Electronic Engineering for development and technology projects to deliver against design brief and functional performance.
  • Developing innovative concepts to solve engineering challenges.
  • Managing the prototype design, iterative development, and debug/testing activities to validate these concepts, mitigating risk and leverage the capabilities of the team.
  • Work closely with multifunctional counterparts (Marketing/Category, MSC, Quality and Regulatory) to deliver fit for purpose propositions (Consumer, Cost, Scalability) and ensure technical requirements are clearly understood.
  • Develop strong relationships with partners and suppliers to enable access to newest and most appropriate technologies and facilitate prototype production and scale up to full production.
