First Aid & CPR Instructor (Part-Time, Contract)

Salary: $19.71-$29.56/hour

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidates will have the following;

  • Canadian Red Cross Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C Instructor Certification;
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills;
  • Duty Manager experience considered an asset;
  • Teaching experience considered an asset;
  • Health & Safety background considered an asset;
  • Current Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Three professional references required.

By design the First Aid & CPR Instructor position is not a physically demanding position. They should be able to lift and twist with up to 10 lbs. They will be required to travel for their position on a regular basis. They will be required to set up and take down the tables, chairs, and all required First Aid & CPR equipment to and from their classes
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting directly to the Senior Health and Safety Manager, the First Aid & CPR Instructor will:

  • Act as an association instructor for Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C.
  • Plan and provide high quality instruction to YMCA staff, volunteers, and members of the public during in person and blended courses.
  • Stay up to date & ensure content is aligned with current Canadian Red Cross standards.
  • Work with facility Duty Managers to set up and take down the program space, including moving tables, chairs, and instructional equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with the Senior Health & Safety Manager regarding availability, class schedules, and feedback.
  • Complete administrative work for each class, including printing off course rosters, cross referencing rosters with sign in sheets, tracking no-shows, and submitting hard and electronic records.
  • Promote an environment in line with YMCA Calgary core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility & Respect.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment by encouraging participant interaction and discussion.
  • Adapt and tailor learning opportunities to the participants in each class, creating an inclusive learning environment.
  • Be a self-directed and independent worker.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be available on Monday evenings, Friday evenings or Saturdays.
  • Be flexible for infrequent classes on other days & times.
  • Be able to travel and teach city wide, including but not limited to, Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton, Shawnessy YMCA, Quarry Park Child Development Centre, Remington YMCA in Quarry Park, Saddletowne YMCA, Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot and Camp Chief Hector YMCA.
