ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in a Healthcare or social services related field.
  • Extensive and recent experience providing services for Yukon’s First Nations’ people and/or persons of Indigenous ancestry.
  • Experience providing care/service to palliative resident and their families would be considered an asset.

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered. Please clearly demonstrate how these meet the essential qualifications.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY

Candidate’s should have and may be assessed on:

  • Excellent knowledge of culture, traditions, social history and economic conditions of Yukon First Nations
  • Ability to assess the health, social and cultural needs relevant to First Nations residents while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to plan, develop and implement culturally relevant programs and events for First Nations groups
  • Ability to design and deliver education sessions to health care team members
  • Ability to build partnerships with and obtain assistance from community partners, agencies or other stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

JOB REQUIREMENTS

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Travel within the territory.
  • Interaction with residents and their families, staff and members of the public
  • Possible exposure to animals, plants/flowers, second-hand smoke, infectious disease, and latex products; working in temperatures of approximately 75 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius)
  • Exposure to weather conditions when working outside with residents.
  • Exposure to clients, family members, or co-workers experiencing high levels of emotional stress; potential emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from clients or family members; sitting, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, driving, dismantling, and loading wheelchairs into vehicles.
