Description:

Birdon is looking for a Fitter/Plant Mechanic to join our team in Bulga, NSW.
Birdon was founded in 1977 with the acquisition of a Cutter Suction Dredge. Since this time, contract dredging has continued to play an integral part of Birdon’s services.
This position will report to the Dredging Project Supervisor and be based on Birdon’s long-term dredging services contract to dredge and relocate coal tailings at one of the key open cut mine sites in Singleton, NSW.
This is a hands-on position that requires close and effective working relationships with other tradespeople.

This role involves:

  • Carrying out, scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs to dredging equipment, mobile and stationary plant.
  • Fault finding repairing and/or replacing components as required.
  • Maintaining plant and equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations and site requirements.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Certificate III Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (eg. Fitter & Turner, Fitter Machinist, Plant Mechanic Trade Certificate)
  • Suitable experience in relevant trade background, preferably in marine/mining industry
  • Strong commitment to quality principles and dedication to workplace safety
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Full driver’s licenceAbility to pass a Coal Services Order 43 Medical.

Additional criteria that is not essential but is highly regarded:

  • Experience/qualifications with hydraulics.
  • TRG – Hot Work (Cutting and Welding) Awareness Training
  • Experience working in the marine industry (including driving work boats/punts)
  • Commercial Boat Licence (i.e. EX38, Coxswains, or Master)
  • Experience/qualifications with modern electrical/data components and equipment.
  • High Risk Work Licenses (Dogging, Riggers, Forklift, EWP, Non-Slewing Crane)
  • First Aid Certificate.
