QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/JOB REQUIREMENTS (ABOUT YOU):

  • 1 year of fleet maintenance and repair preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck/Trailer technical training 2-year school (preferred)
  • Current and valid driver’s license (clean abstract)
  • Technicians must own and provide all basic tools (socket set, wrenches, drills, pliers, wire strippers etc.) necessary to perform all maintenance inspections.
  • Basic knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and components
  • Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • The associate works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call

Responsibilities:

ROLE:

To assist Fleet Technician III in providing safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by learning to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and basic repairs that include light bulbs, oil/filter changes, minor welding, brake repair, minor electrical and air systems to prevent breakdowns on road, reduce vehicle down time and improve total fleet reliability.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn required inspections and preventive maintenance under the guidance of fleet technician III and fleet coordinator on vehicles and equipment to maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
  • Learn to identify commercial vehicle deficiencies through inspections on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, light duty vehicles and any other company owned equipment under the guidance of fleet technician III or fleet coordinator in accordance with all federal, provincial, local legal and regulatory agencies. (Includes all provincial required inspections and frequencies).
  • Address all Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups timely, efficiently, and correctly the first time under the guidance of fleet technician III or fleet coordinator.
  • Diagnose and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications including but not limited to suspension, exhaust systems (including regeneration systems), electrical systems, brake systems, lift-gate hydraulic and electrical systems under the guidance of fleet technician III or fleet coordinator
  • Follow procedures including documenting all work performed on Sysco computer programs using complaint, cause, and correction format under the guidance of fleet coordinator.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.
  • Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their supervisor.
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions under a mechanic shelter
  • Ability to assist in fueling, washing, snow removal and salting the facility lots as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
