Flight Deck Design is looking for engaged and motivated Mid-Level or Senior Flight Deck Design Engineers (Level 3/4) to join a team of highly skilled engineers that are passionate about working on the next generation Flight Deck for our Renton or Everett, Washington locations.
We are looking for a qualified candidate with technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to quality, to positively impact the design of our Flight Decks from initial design concept, through development, test, certification, delivery, as well as production and in-service fleet issues support. The Flight Deck Design team defines the cockpit environment for all Boeing Commercial aircraft. We integrate with Flight Crew Ops, Pilots and our customers to ensure we deliver best in class Flight Decks that improves safety and addresses the needs of the Flight Crew.
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use your leadership, creativity and problem-solving skills to address a diverse range of engineering issues and fully integrate final design solutions. Engineers in this position are expected to independently work assignments, collaborate with teammates, and receive tasking from a lead engineer.
A Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level (Level 3) and Senior (Level 4) Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads work with internal customers and suppliers to develop and document component and detail design efforts, complex electronic and electrical system requirements using analytical and technical skills, and thorough documentation within schedule and cost constraints, to create error free, readily manufactured system and component specifications and drawings.
  • Resolves airplane level requirements into system level requirements, and resolves system level requirements into component requirements, all with time and cost-efficient validation methods.
  • Supports on-going production efforts including timely resolution of build problems at Boeing and supplier manufacturing facilities; identifying and implementing design improvements to build accuracy, build rate, and production line safety; and timely resolution of rejections, functional test failures, and flight squawks.
  • Leads cross functional technical coordination within and outside Boeing, with the following: manufacturing, Crew-ops, airplane safety, Supply Chain Management, BCA Systems Software, Suppliers, Airline Customers, Regulatory Agencies, and other interfacing teams.
  • Participates in, and leads system, component, and detail certification efforts, including creation of required certification artifacts such as, Component and Functional Hazard Assessments, System Safety Analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and fault tree analysis. Demonstrates traceability to regulatory requirements and resolves regulation conflicts.
  • Participates in and leads system and component level validation analysis and testing, including plan creation, Integration lab support, system and component test rigs, test monitoring, analysis and test plan/report authoring, supplier test report review and approval, test failure analysis, and test failure mitigation.
  • Authors and manages Design Practices and Design Guides.
  • Assists in the development of the Interface Control Documents (ICD) and models the system logical data in the SLATE tool.
  • Assists in the development of digital and analog systems architecture with consideration of which data/bus formats (CAN, A664, A629, etc.) best supports program objectives and requirements, and impacts data reliability and integrity.
  • Responsible for all electrical aspects such as power loads and requirements on various electrical buses, circuit protection, switch contact ratings, functional schematics and wire diagrams.
  • Leads and coordinates work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs, and interface specifications.
  • Identifies problems, performs root cause corrective analysis, and implements corrective actions utilizing the Boeing Problem Solving Methodology (BPSM).
  • Monitors supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.
  • Resolves issues and problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.
  • Research technology advances for potential application to company business needs.

THIS POSITION MUST MEET EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS. TO MEET EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS, A “U.S. PERSON” AS DEFINED BY 22 C.F.R. §120.15 IS REQUIRED. “U.S. PERSON” INCLUDES U.S. CITIZEN, LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENT, REFUGEE, OR ASYLEE.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 5+ years’ experience using excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Equipment Management.
  • Working knowledge and experience developing/applying aviation related system safety analysis methods such as System Safety Risk Assessments, Fault-Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA) and Safety Assessment Report (SAR).
  • Working knowledge of electrical circuit design.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Typical Education & Experience:
    Mid-Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
    Senior: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
