Job description

The Flood Forecasting Centre’s Operations Officer is a key operational role supporting the Operations Manager in delivery and resilience of operational services. The role provides great insights to world leading operational flood forecasting and opportunity to progress in Incident Management based roles.
Key duties will include: Supporting FFC Operations Team during flood events, having a lead role in operational systems support, managing operational procedures & documentation, producing operational performance statistics and representing the FFC in customer environments.
You will also be supported in your professional development with access to a range of training opportunities.

The team

The FFC represents a key working partnership between the Environment Agency and the Met Office. The team is based at the Met Office in Exeter. It provides 24/7 operational services and trusted guidance to allow Category 1 and 2 responders in England and Wales to plan and respond to flood incidents.
Experience/skills required
1
A degree in a science related field or evidence of relevant experience in an operational environment. Maths and English at GCSE or equivalent is a minimum requirement.
Experience of team working in an Operational Environment. Working experience of Hydrology or Meteorology would be desirable.

Although hybrid working is currently allowed by the Environment Agency - should this change the contracted base for this post is Exeter. Candidates should be within one hour of Exeter to work.
As the role is based at the Met Office - security clearance will be required for the successful candidate.
