Description:

We are looking to appoint a doctor to work at Foundation Year 2 or 3 level in General and Geriatric Medicine from April until August 2024. This vacancy has arisen due to a gap in the Foundation Training programme.
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate keen to pursue a career in Geriatric and General Medicine. The successful applicant will be expected to work under the supervision of the Consultant Geriatricians on the Elderly Care wards. The junior team on each Elderly care ward includes a Specialist Registrar, a Specialty Doctor, ST or FY2 doctors, 2 FY1 doctors and a Physician Associate.
Work alongside the medical team to provide comprehensive geriatric assessment and ongoing care to the patients on an Elderly Care ward.
Attend Consultant and Registrar ward rounds.
Gather collateral history from patients and their families or GP.
Work alongside the multidisciplinary team to help plan complex discharges.
Attend and contribute to the ‘best interest meetings’ with families of patients with cognitive impairment to plan for future care..
To provide the best medical care to diagnose the underlying medical condition and improve the patient’s general health
To improve patients mobility and functional independence by providing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA)
The hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital. The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.
