Description:

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

This is a highly technical and analytical role within our Financial Crime Intelligence team. It is a fixed term contract until the end of September 2024 with a potential extension.

  • Keep abreast of current and emerging Financial Crime trends and AML/CFT obligations and identify opportunities and threats through analysis.
  • Transaction monitoring optimization: evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of WNZL’s transaction monitoring rules to improve detection capability.
  • Responsible for the detection and analysis of suspicious scam and fraud activity, industry risks, and any complex or critical issues related to fraud and financial crime trends.
  • You will be accountable for capturing and consolidating fraud-related data, coding scenarios, conducting analysis, and preparing reports to facilitate effective risk management and monitoring. This includes evaluating the performance and suitability of existing analytics methodologies and identifying areas for enhancement.
  • Develop, implement and maintain Fraud Scenarios across Westpac to ensure ‘best practice’ analytics processes.
  • Develop a risk-based view of financial crime at Westpac, including designing enhanced profile tables and scores for customer segments, transactions, and merchants and identifying ways to implement and maintain these effectively across our detection environment.
  • Actively promote improvement in detection/prevention processes within the Financial Crime and the wider organisation.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • Experience in SQL and SAS programming and analysis experience
  • Tertiary qualification (Maths / Statistics / Quantitative / Business or other relevant degree) or equivalent business experience
  • 3-5 years of hands on (industry) analytics experience, preferably in financial services
  • Data management expertise
  • Advanced mathematical and statistical skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
  • Aptitude for PC applications and software, including data visualisation tools
  • Aptitude for data management, analysis and manipulation
  • Knowledge of AML/CFT legislation and typologies
