Overview
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Team Lead will focus on coaching and providing formal supervision to staff while ensuring fidelity to Ray of Hope Secure program standards. The Team Lead is also responsible for completing and maintaining administrative records for Staff Supervision/Development, Unit Meetings, Active File Audit/Management, and Serious Occurrence Data/Stat reporting. The Team Lead will direct staff in the Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system. This position will facilitate unit safety huddles to promote a supportive, respective, and collaborative workplace for staff. The Team Lead will implement the performance management system for their assigned group of staff. The Team Lead will ensure that directives of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and Ray of Hope Secure Policy and Procedure (ROHS P&P) are applied appropriately and consistently.
Specific Responsibilities

Program Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction in the daily operation of residential units and for staff ensuring programs are operating in compliance with Ministry legislation and Agency policy and procedures
  • Facilitate a trauma-informed practice for the young persons maintaining therapeutic relationships and boundaries (E.G. PBIS, Ray of Hope Employee Handbook)
  • Supervise new hires during Probationary Period as assigned by Program Manager
  • Coach and educate the YCW staff through debriefing, practicing situational awareness, unit safety huddles/small group meetings with the goal of increased staff knowledge and skills competencies
  • Facilitate and complete supervision to YCW staff, including documentation and file reviews in accordance with Accreditation and Licensing standards.
  • Facilitate weekly review of YCW staff for File Audit goal setting/progress of competency
  • Prepare, complete and review Logbooks, Incident Reports, and non-inclusive of MCCSS and other documentation
  • Initiate, complete, and submit, maintain Log and provide data analysis/reporting for Serious Occurrences (MCCSS)
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager, to utilize resources and tools to ensure PBIS tier system/UMAB is maintained by YCW staff
  • Participate in the administration, collection, and recording of data, including staff/program surveys and of data collection instruments
  • Conduct timely and random searches of person, facility, and property according to the direction of the Security Manager.
  • Ensure security and emergency procedures (e.g., Fire Drills) are completed and comply with ROHS P&P
  • Attend committee, public, educational and MCCSS meetings on behalf of Ray of Hope
  • Collaborate, when needed, with the Case Management Coordinator in staff/young person complaints
  • Ensure the Rights of Young Persons are being respected and Complaint Procedure (debriefing, mediation) and Ombudsman process is supported.
  • Review monthly/quarterly Incident and Serious Occurrence Reports and, where applicable provide a staff goal/training report to Security Manager and Program Manager to address staff skill competencies
  • Coordinate with Program Manager any petty cash requests for residential program delivery.
  • Participate in annual/scheduled planning sessions

Staff Responsibilities

  • Serve as a model of integrity and performance for frontline staff and co-workers.
  • Provide direct supervision (both formal and informal) to frontline staff, including completing appropriate formal documentation for assigned staff
  • Ensure that all health and safety instruction and implementation is communicated and practised by staff, volunteers, and student as per Ministry legislation and Agency policy
  • Conduct staff orientation and training
  • Actively participate in leadership and unit meetings
  • Working alongside the Leadership Team, develop an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes teamwork, quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Encourage all staff to use their talents and abilities in providing quality programming to our clients.
  • Implement provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Participate as designate Program Director in the “on-call” system as an On-call Manager
  • Participate as designate Program Director for the assessment and placement of youth in secure detention with the approval of MCCSS
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager

General Program Responsibilities

  • The Team Lead will have significant contact with internal parties such as Youth Care Workers, Program Director, and other members of the facility staff. They will also have some contact with family members of the young person as well as with community professionals such as Police, Probation Officers, medical professionals, etc. Significant collaboration with the other Team Lead and Management Team of ROH-Secure is required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Completion of post-secondary education (Minimum 3 Year Diploma/Degree) in a related field; or a combination of education and progressively responsible experience

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years’ experience of supervisory experience required
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with at-risk youth, preferably in detention/custody setting

Preferred Certifications (ongoing training will be provided)

  • Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) Certificate
  • Standard First Aid Level-C CPR & AED or willingness to obtain prior to employment

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities required to be successful in this position

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Familiar with policies of the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Excellent writing skills including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate staff team to ensure they work productively, cooperatively and with a sense of satisfaction in their work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Proficient in reading, speaking and comprehension in the English language; inclusive of excellent writing skills.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Check
  • Valid, unrestricted Class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence
  • Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract through Service Ontario
  • Employment Medical Form including immunization record and fitness assessment
