JOB INTRODUCTION

Mail Newspapers Technology is the Information Technology provider for media companies within the DMGT Group (Daily Mail & General Trust). We are seeking a suitable candidate to join our Systems Team. It is desirable the candidate will have a wide range of cloud skills with expertise in GCP specifically and have worked within a large corporate IT environment with a large complex technology deployment.
The Systems team are responsible for all infrastructure (on prem and cloud) underpinning the various DMG Media outlets, the software dependencies of our bespoke applications, the MailOnline deployment pipeline, and various aspects of cyber security.
You will become a part of a permanent team of multi-disciplined engineers working alongside various teams, inside and out, to deliver key projects and strategy. The role will report into the Head of Site Reliability Engineering and Infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will have a proven record in designing, developing, supporting GCP cloud environments in a very fast-paced company with tech spread across geographic locations & cloud providers. The Role is based out of our head office in Kensington, London. We are looking for someone that is an excellent communicator, methodical, and well-motivated. They will possess the ability to ensure set objectives are delivered within tight timescales where key production services need to always remain stable and efficient. The candidate should be a well-drilled individual, flexible in their approach to diverse tasks and a have very broad, yet in-depth, understanding of Cloud and infrastructure related technologies. You will be part of a team of various disciplines in not only supporting existing infrastructure and applications but also in enhancing DevOps/ Site Reliability practices across the wider business. The candidate will;

  • Track record in designing and building cloud-native architectures for AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience migrating from OnPrem to GCP and from other Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS…) to GCP.
  • Work closely with our Analytics team to Support, Optimise and enhance our GCP based solutions and workloads
  • Adopting/building DevOps framework in GCP Cloud environment; IaC modules, deployment pipelines that can be used across various cloud platforms.
  • Experience of virtualisation and container concepts (ie container technologies such as Google GKE, AWS EKS, Docker, Kubernetes, Openstack)
  • Demonstrable experience of Cloud architectures and strategy (private, public and hybrid)
  • Experience with infrastructure configuration and automation processes and tools: puppet, ansible, chef, Terraform
  • Good understanding of Cloud Identity Security, Access Management Implementations, Cloud monitoring solutions and networking
  • Drive effectiveness, efficiency and continuous improvement using automation.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Security, Dev teams to ensure effective designs and application of cloud services
  • Delivery HA/DR, Security and compliance strategies
  • Provide technology insight and support to the business and peers.
  • Have the ability to manage tasks to tight deadlines and mange upwards regular updates and managing expectations accordingly.
  • Have a good understanding of other Cloud technologies including Azure and AWS.
  • Evangelise topics such as monitoring, performance, and reliability throughout our IT Support and delivery teams
  • Be keen to develop scripting capability and API integration in one or more popular languages.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for the Service/applications owners to resolve issues swiftly and find root cause and mitigate from happening again had too better improve service(s) we deliver.
  • Understand and work towards a strategy set out by senior management ensuring we adhere to direction and execute tasks based on priority to meet strategy deadlines.
  • Have the drive to constantly improve and try out new technology offerings to improve Operational efficiency and execution.
  • Constantly improve functional monitoring and non-functional monitoring of the infrastructure, to head off any issue that might occur.
  • Be flexible when it comes to out of hours support. You may be required to be on-call evening and weekends for escalating to out of core working hours and ask to carry out change controls in agreed business maintenance windows.

Further Responsibilities

  • Investigating and resolving incidents assigned to the Systems team and ensuring incidents are closed in a timely fashion to meet defined IT Services Levels.
  • Give guidance to developers in automating routine tasks in the cloud.
  • Ensuring in house knowledge documentation used by the System team is up to date.
  • Providing clear, accurate and timely updates to the customer with the progress of any incident resolution.
  • Providing the IT Helpdesk with information about incidents and problems to assist with the identification and tracking of common and re-occurring issues.
  • Ensure adherence to all IT policies, architectural standards and guidelines, operational processes and procedures including relevant build and security standards.
  • Identify and manage problems assigned to you by mangers to conclusion
  • Identifying and managing key risks within Cloud Infrastructure Services.
  • Provide first class monitoring of the entire estate in order to facilitate auto-recovery.
  • Build and deploy the tooling that enables us to deliver all of the above.
