REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Laws degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing:
  • Legally eligible to practice law in Portugal;
  • 5+ years practicing law, with a focus on corporate/commercial law and/or relevant industry experience in US and Portuguese environments;
  • 2+ years start-up experience;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization;
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Previous experience in a Head of Staff or similar role;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality; and
  • Full English and Portuguese fluency

Responsibilities:

GENERAL COUNSEL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, regulatory affairs and compliance, customer grievances, intellectual property, shipping, and employment law;
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to safeguard the organization’s interests and mitigate legal risks;
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents in collaboration with the Legal and Financial Analyst;
  • Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact the business and advise accordingly;
  • Manage external legal resources, including outside counsel, as necessary;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making across the business;
  • Ensure corporate governance and compliance with legal requirements; and
  • Be available for special projects and to lend support to individuals and teams when needed, eg Data Privacy, Accessibility, Health & Safety, audits, etc.

HEAD OF STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help improve internal & external communications for CEO:
  • Internal - weekly digest, monthly digest, quarterly digest, and others;
  • External - work with finance team to improve monthly reporting to shareholders
  • Partner with the Senior Leadership Team to oversee strategic business initiatives, including OKRs from development through successful execution;
  • Assist in content, strategy and agendas for Board of Directors, leadership, and company-wide meetings;
  • Partner with the leadership team in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation;
  • Facilitate cross-functional team meetings and project manage deliverables;
  • In collaboration with the People team, review, design, and execute on improvements to org structure, find knowledge and skills gaps and help address them;
  • Optimize current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for ultimate collaboration, sustainability, maximum efficiency, productivity, and profitability; and
  • In collaboration with the Finance team, determine, manage and monitor company and team objectives and key performance indicators
