The General Labourer is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to ensure jobsites are prepped and ready for project commencement, and then maintained for cleanliness and safety throughout the duration of the project which will ensure the smooth, efficient and timely operation of the Project crews’ daily activities. This also leads to affirming that MacKay Contracting delivers the highest quality product and service, and our ability to exceed customers’ expectations and improve our safety profile.

This position consists of performing tasks involving physical labour at construction projects. It also consists of operating hand and power tools of all types, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, settling braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, cleaning up rubble and debris, and possibly removing hazardous waste materials. This role reports to the General Foreman or designate.

• Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
• Assist Traffic Controllers with traffic passing near, in, or around work zones
• Perform general fuel and lube on equipment
• Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers and/or rakes
• Erect and/or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades ramps or other temporary structures
• Load, unload or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications
• Measure, mark or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed
• Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete using saws, hammers, nails and/or bolts
• Mix, pour and/or spread materials
• Position, join, align, or seal structural components, such a concrete wall sections or pipes
• Assist lead pipelayer during utilities installations
• Confined space entry/concrete grouting
• Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement or adjustment of machinery, equipment and/or materials
• Daily completion and submission of daily timecards
• Daily completion and submission of FLHA reports
