The Duke is a live music-focused pub in Enmore, with a vibrant, diverse, and active community. The Duke’s team is passionate about creating great experiences, being known for its roster of free live music, exceptional wood-fired eats, and a dynamic beverage offering.
We are seeking an experienced and professional General Manager to join our team and oversee our day-to-day operations, with a strong focus on community engagement, liquor compliance, staff management, and operational development.
The Duke is part of Odd Culture; sitting amongst a range of eclectic venues across the Group which empower and promote inclusive hospitality experiences for people and communities of all kinds.

GUEST EXPERIENCES:

  • Foster an energetic and engaging atmosphere for guests during late-night hours, ensuring their enjoyment and satisfaction.
  • Participate in the development and execution of thrilling live music programs and events specifically tailored for late-night trade.
  • Actively engage with customers, promptly address any concerns or feedback, and ensure a positive guest experience throughout the night.
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness, safety, and comfort, maintaining a vibrant environment.
  • Take pride in venue presentation and follow all venue configuration SOPs
  • Maintain industry-leading guest satisfaction KPIs

STAFF MANAGEMENT:

  • Recruit, train, and develop a talented team of bartenders, waitstaff, and other support staff who are capable of handling late-night trade.
  • Understand the nuances of effective rostering and wage control in a live music venue.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to enhance staff performance and maintain high service standards.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork and motivation, even during late-night shifts.
  • Lead by example and respect professional boundaries. We are looking for mature and compassionate leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar management role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a late-night live music-focused bar or venue.
  • A proven track record of adhering to KPIs and hitting designated targets
  • In-depth knowledge of liquor laws, responsible service of alcohol, and health and safety regulations, particularly concerning late-night trade.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record in staff management and development, including managing late-night shifts and staff rostering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers, staff, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Know how to work a problem until it’s resolved, the buck will stop with you.
  • Knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, cost control, and revenue optimization, considering the unique dynamics of late-night operations.
  • A passion for live music and a strong understanding of the local music scene in Sydney.
