Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Vice President for ACE and being part of the Regional Commercial Leadership Team, the Canada General Manager will be accountable for the business and management of Canadian commercial affiliates, establishing credibility and leadership with all members of the management team.
S/he will provide strategic direction and effective management to ensure a strong team working culture so that the business achieves its ambitious performance objectives and systems and procedure keep pace. This includes ensuring the achievement of company objectives and profit targets and the success of new multiple product launches, from marketing vision and strategy to implementation. S/he will also interface effectively with the relevant global divisions to maximize lifecycle opportunities for products both locally and at a global level.
Beyond the local responsibilities, the GM CAN will be a member of the ACE (Australia-Canada- Europe Region) Leadership Team.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Overall representation of the company, being the responsible legal person covering:
  • Legal and fiscal responsibilities and being the representative of the company on legal/statutory issues interacting with government bodies.
  • The interface between the company and other pharmaceutical companies, patient groups, scientific organizations, main customers, suppliers, health authorities and key opinion leaders
  • Compliance with statutory accounting practices and local employment laws.
  • Maximizing the sales and profit growth of the affiliate:
  • Demonstrate deep financial acumen inclusive of prior P&L responsibility.
  • Take responsibility for the profitable development of the affiliate, maximizing the potential of existing product ranges and ensuring the successful introduction of new products.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
  • In coordination with the support Functions and the Leadership of the Region, position the company with key stakeholders within the country including health authorities, key opinion leaders, policy makers, payers and media. Develop the profile of the company and ensure that the company is respected and viewed as a highly professional player within the industry, within trade associations and at Governmental level.
  • Drive access negotiations and political intervention in all therapy areas with relevant stakeholders – payers, regulators, the scientific community and relevant patient associations.
  • Shape the organization, coach, lead and develop the team; foster teamwork as well as a leadership culture which attracts, develops and retains high calibre talent to build and shape a commercial talent pool that will drive the future successes of the organization.
  • Provide motivational leadership through personal example and by forming and leading a highly motivated and energetic management team.
  • Play a full and active part, alongside other Senior Managers in the growth of the company. Work closely with the regional marketing groups in order to ensure revenue and growth targets are met on a product-by-product basis.

The position will be based in Mississauga, Canada.

Candidate Profile

  • The ideal candidate will have matured a significant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry in sales and marketing, new product launches, leading cross functional teams.
  • S/he will have a track record of leading a business within the specialty pharma space and hands-on experience in an operational management position either as Operations Director or Division Head or General Manager in Canada or another relevant market
  • S/he will also have international experience at above country regional or global, possibly in an Anglo-Saxon / US group
  • S/he will have advanced experience with proven track record in product launch and lifecycle management, especially in the context of specialty products
  • S/he will have strong financial skills with a proven ability to manage the stand-alone P&L and balance sheet at the local level. Be entrepreneurial with a bias toward action and a results orientation
  • S/he will be a pragmatic individual who enjoys getting involved in the business at all levels and across all disciplines. Broad-based cross-functional experience is important
  • S/he will possess charisma and display personal and professional maturity. S/he will be data driven in the analysis and decision making with the knowledge and ability to manage key data, operations and issues of the business. S/h will be science driven, with scientific acumen and deep understanding of the therapeutic medical needs as well as fully conversant with financials and managing a balance sheet
  • S/he will be entrepreneurial and results-driven with a strong bias for action and tangible results. S/he will have a strong work ethic and personal integrity. With excellent communication and presentation skills, will be able to gain credibility, engender trust and influence all levels. S/he will be proficient in English and French.

Specific performance competencies include:

  • Ability to establish, implement and communicate a clear, compelling and inspiring vision of growth which is linked with the overall strategy of the business, driving superior sales and market share growth through an intense focus on priorities.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Market Access environment in Canada and a track record of successfully working with the relevant Public Agency and Health authority
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills with ability to formulate, develop and execute strategy including demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and implement multi-dimensional marketing and business plans and excellence in project management/prioritization.
  • Successfully perform budget management and possess highly developed understanding and experience with revenue forecasting.
  • Proven general management and leadership: ability to manage, motivate and develop (coach) a team composed of direct reports as well as non-direct reporting members of supporting functions, possessing excellent interpersonal skills to lead, interact with, focus, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines.
  • Strong executive presence with ability to command respect through exercise of sound business judgment and clear decision-making, and excellent communication skills.
  • Good understanding of and ability to interact with and influence other functions within an affiliate and within corporate International / Global structures.
