Description:
The Principal House Officer provides day to day surgical services to patients presenting to the outpatient and inpatient areas of the hospital. It is intended that the Principal House Officer will both maximise their own professional development and to assist in the professional development of junior medical staff and the training of students.

The SCHHS provides healthcare to a rapidly growing population. There has been significant investment in services over the past few years, in particular the establishment of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and the Nambour General Hospital redevelopment. The SCHHS also delivers services through hospitals in Gympie, Caloundra and Maleny. In addition, the SCHHS operates a residential aged care facility in Nambour and provides community health services and community mental health services through a range of stand-alone facilities located across the Sunshine Coast region.
Responsibilities:
- Provide services in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery.
- Maintain up to date surgical skills.
- Provide high quality, safe care and advice to patients presenting to the clinical areas of the Department of Surgery.
- Participate in the training of and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Provide patient care in accordance with the ethics and standards of the medical profession.
- Participate in the surgical quality improvement activities.
- Carry out non-clinical duties relevant to the Department as directed by the Clinical Director General Surgery.
