Description:
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Mine Geology Superintendent, the Geotechnical Engineer will work with the Mine Technical Services team to provide engineering support focused on open pit slope monitoring, and other project work as required to support the open pit mine.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering
- 4+ years of experience with rock mechanics in the mining industry preferred.
- Mine design software experience (preferably Hexagon MinePlan).
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Familiarity with geotechnical field investigations, slope design and analysis and surveillance of geotechnical structures such as Embankment Dam, Open Pit and Stockpiles.
- Sound knowledge and experience in hard rock mechanics.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operations.
- Strong computer skills
- Exposure to project coordination and ability to make sound project decisions.
- Registered, or eligible to register, with EGBC.
- Good work ethic and a strong attitude towards safety are essential requirements.
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain Ground Control Monitoring Plan (GCMP) for the Open Pit Slope
- Scope and manage site investigations.
- Monitor site instrumentation and liaise with Senior Geotechnical engineer and Engineer of Record.
- Management of open pit slope stability databases and systems
- Consult with drill & blast engineer to ensure best practices for ground control.
- Slope stability assessments.
- Coordinate geotechnical field investigations.
- Perform on-site construction monitoring or inspections.
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Geotechnical Engineer role as required or as assigned by the department head.
