We are looking to hire a Geotechnical/Materials Technician to join our team in Kelowna B.C. This position will be stationed out of Kelowna, B.C. and; therefore, you will need to be located in the Kelowna area or willing to travel there for extended periods. This position is available to be either seasonal or full-time. The salary range for this position is $60K to $70K per annum (or hourly $29/hour to $35/hour for regular hours and overtime is calculated at 1.5 times the hourly rate). Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD MAKE YOU A GREAT CANDIDATE:
- 2-5 years of Geotechnical/Materials testing or related construction experience is required.
- Diploma from a technical institute in Civil Engineering, Civil Technology, or equivalent work experience.
- Some related industry experience in quality assurance/control for field and laboratory testing - preferably in the consulting sector would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) is required.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
- Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and a team player attitude are essential.
- Experience dealing with contractors and municipal design consultants would be beneficial.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and must provide current drivers abstract when applying preference will be given to candidates with a clean driving record.
- Must be physically capable of performing the manual labour duties required, including carrying and lifting heavy materials.
Responsibilities:
- Construction monitoring on commercial developments, highways and industrial projects
- Performing field and laboratory testing of soil, aggregates, Portland cement, asphalt and concrete (including sieve analysis).
- Density testing using nuclear density gauges.
- Preparation of Proctors and Marshall molds, asphalt cement content, sand equivalents, Atterberg limits and moisture content, including evaluation and reporting of properties and characteristics.
- Monitor geotechnical drilling, instrumentation installations, and core sample collections.
- Monitor shallow and deep foundations.
- Retaining wall construction and general earthworks on various projects.
