Description:

ABOUT PELL FRISCHMANN:

Pell Frischmann is a specialist advisory and technical consultancy operating across the built and natural environment, helping to shape a better future for the communities in which we work. We offer consultancy services, with access to specialist sister companies and partners, to support both public and private-sector clients. We work across sectors encompassing buildings, infrastructure, and regeneration.
Originally formed in 1926, we have a unique heritage in delivering client-focused solutions that deliver value through our commercial awareness, sustainable aspirations, and innovative approach. Our distinctive future is defined by our ownership; Pell Frischmann is a part of RSBG SE, the patient capital investment arm of RAG-Stiftung. RAG-Stiftung is a foundation with the long-term public purpose to deal with the environmental and social commitments resulting from the closing of Germany’s coal mining industry. RSBG SE’s mission is to generate sustainable funds for the foundation; so, our work directly contributes to the challenge of fighting global pollution and climate change.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our business is growing and we are expanding our digital expertise. We are looking for a GIS professional to join our team to support a wide range of environmental and engineering projects. Your analytical acumen and passion for technical solutions will be essential in gathering, analysing, and visualising spatial data to inform critical decision-making and deliver actionable insights.
The Pell Frischmann team works on a diverse range of schemes and you will be involved with leading and contributing to data and information management and analysis on a variety of projects including within the road, water, rail or housing sectors throughout the UK. The role would also involve support and trouble-shooting across various technical teams, and the training of GIS champions across the business.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Collection and Management:

  • Source and manage diverse datasets including but not limited to: terrain, hydrology, land use, transport infrastructure, environmental hazards, protected areas and features.
  • Conduct field data collection using GPS and other survey equipment, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop, maintain and provide support for robust GIS databases, ensuring data quality, organisation, and accessibility.

Spatial Analysis:

  • Perform advanced spatial analysis to identify patterns, trends, and potential impacts.
  • Master GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS to perform overlay analysis, network analysis, suitability modelling, and change detection.
  • Apply geostatistical techniques to analyse and interpret data for informed decision-making.

Cartographic Visualisation:

  • Create compelling maps, illustrations, and visual representations to communicate complex environmental findings clearly.
  • Design maps that effectively highlight project constraints, site characteristics, environmental sensitivities, and potential solutions.
  • Translate technical information into formats understandable by clients, stakeholders, and the wider public.

Technical Assessments:

  • Support (and lead where appropriate/necessary) a range of analytical geospatial tasks in the environment team and across the business, including for example:
  • Conduct geospatial analysis for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), supporting project planning and sustainable design across multiple discipline areas.
  • Assess potential environmental risks and constraints affecting engineering projects.
  • Assist in site selection studies, optimising project placement while minimising environmental and understanding transport impacts.
  • Review, analyse and present transport-based geospatial information, including highway modelling inputs/outputs, census-based data and site accessibility information.
  • Provide support for flood risk mapping and analysis, including use of LiDAR elevation geodata and integrating with hydrological modelling tools.
  • Aid the adoption and integration of geospatial processes in engineering challenges across the business including structural engineering, buildings, bridges, rail, highways and general civil engineering challenges.

Reporting and Collaboration:

  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports summarising GIS analyses and findings.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, environmental scientists, and stakeholders to ensure the effective integration of GIS insights into projects.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams, contributing your GIS expertise to solve complex environmental challenges within projects.
  • Develop and enhance the company’s digital reporting and delivery capabilities through use of web mapping and collaborative cross-discipline and client facing online data sharing.
