Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION

An opportunity has arisen for a Global Category Director- Energy (LATAM / EMEA) based in EMEA. The main purpose of this role is to lead the Global Procurement - Energy team; working closely with internal and external stakeholders to define and implement a robust global category strategy. Primary regions in scope will be Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and South America.
The role could be located in Heidelberg, Germany; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; London, UK; or other ADM offices in the EU, depending on further discussion.

Reporting to the Vice President of Procurement, the main duties of this role will include:

  • Define specific Global Energy procurement strategies, managing energy risk and maximizing current/future market conditions, while defining contingency planning to ensure critical supply needs are met;
  • Develop energy portfolio risk management according to each Business Unit’s goals;
  • Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports through the process of global category and sourcing strategy definition, development, and implementation;
  • Continuously offer direction and leadership as well as proactively coach, mentor, and encourage the team to engage in training needs and requirements to develop their next-level competency;
  • Develop a positive morale of the team with a cohesive attitude;
  • Discover new global initiatives and opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Responsible for Energy global strategy (focused on EMEA and LATAM markets) and sourcing strategies including performance metrics for category value results;
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management/ trading departments on hedging strategies (physical and financial hedging);
  • Collaborate with the Centers of Excellence on energy efficiency / sustainability projects, utilities and commercial department;
  • Secure supply and reduce costs by leading cross-functional strategic sourcing teams;
  • Educate and inform key stakeholders and business leaders on energy market trends or changes in regulation;
  • Lead and coordinates category management activities such as Ad hoc Task-Forces and Business Continuity Crisis Management;
  • Monitor and maintain Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) to improve overall efficiency, performance, accountability, compliance, and drive value creation;
  • Be a subject matter expert (SME) on all facets of the Energy category, staying up to date on the latest industry and market trends and challenges to drive lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and ability to anticipate internal and external business challenges;
  • Defines goals for your team to drive business value, continuously monitor and manage team progress towards goals, and ensure all work aligns with those goals;
  • Communicate team success factors across the organization and inspire your team to embrace their goals;
  • Maintain a global category-specific supplier landscape analysis which incorporates supplier historic performance, supplier capabilities, and business requirements.

Your profile:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Supply Management, Operations, Business or Engineering. Master Degree in related field is preferred;
  • Minimum 15 years business experience with 10 years preferably in procurement (Energy or related category);
  • Experience in energy trading/hedging (physical and financial) in EMEA markets;
  • Knowledge on electric power, natural gas, environmental markets, generation, transmission, distribution and energy demand;
  • Extensive experience in the areas of business, technical, legal / regulatory, geographic, commercial, and supply / demand;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to engage, communicate and influence mid to senior level stakeholders (internal / external) and establish trust and credibility with business unit leaders and other functional stakeholders;
  • Experience leading and developing a global team;
  • Ability to develop and establish new ways of working and identify areas of opportunity for new business opportunities or cost efficiencies;
  • Extensive experience with planning, preparation, and including broad aspects when developing sourcing strategies;
  • Enjoys a competitive environment and has experience with high-level, complex sourcing strategies that deliver world-class results;
  • Strong, professional communication skills in English, both verbal and written (fluent in other languages a strong plus);
  • Familiarity with multiple source-to-pay systems (eg. COUPA, Ariba, Maximo) and ERP software (JDE, SAP, etc.);
  • Global awareness (culture, currencies, geography, and political);
  • Professional Purchasing Certification;
  • Familiarity with E-sourcing tools (Ariba, Bravo, etc.).
