The GM Commercial & Risk role is a key member of the Transport & Infrastructure Commercial ANZ team and the Hawkins Senior Leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the Commercial & Risk team within Hawkins.

This role will lead the strategic commercial & risk processes for Hawkins and take accountability for establishing a holistic view of results and performance that will drive improved business outcomes and ensure sustainable growth for the company . This role has the responsibility for all commercial management across the Hawkins business.
You will have primary responsibility for the solution focused resolution of commercial activities & reporting for Hawkins, the training & development of commercial staff and the implementation of best practice standards across all projects.

IMPORTANT SKILLS | NGA PŪKENGA MATUA

• Tertiary qualifications in business, operations management, finance, commerce, Quantity Surveyor or related discipline.
• Experience in a complex construction/build environment is desirable with 10+ years at a Senior Management level in a similar size business or business unit.
• Knowledge and experience of NZS standard form of Contracts.
• Dispute management experience.
• Proven record in driving financial and commercial performance improvement.
• Experience in working at a leadership team level internally and with customers.

• Assist the EGM Commercial & Risk with the development and management of core commercials, Hawkins performance delivery management, and commercial governance of our portfolio of projects.
• The successful candidate will work very closely with the EGM Hawkins to ensure commercial resourcing and resource planning across the business is well organised and appropriate and meets the needs of the projects and regional businesses.
• Establish clarity and visibility of financial and commercial performance for all projects revenue generation, profitability and cash flow. Proactively providing insights and to assist decision making and influence results.
• The effective overall governance of all opportunities, tenders and negotiations, ensuring that those projects have manageable levels of risk. Building and strengthening key customer relationships and supporting business development.
• Proactively facilitate a team culture of high performance and people engagement and apply a collaborative approach to working within Hawkins and the wider T&I business.
• Optimise resource utilisation and cost control for the team.
• Proactively manage and protect Hawkins commercial position, dispute management, general claim positioning, performance metrics, risk guiderails and compliance with The Downer Standard.
• Work closely with the Head of Finance for Hawkins specially with respect to reporting processes, internal controls, forecasting, cash flow management, aged debtors, bonding and overheads.
• Proactively managing Hawkins financial and commercial positioning on Contracts is key as is driving profitability across the Hawkins Portfolio.
