We are looking for a Graduate Building Regulations & Compliance Consultant to join our newly established Building Regulations Consultancy team concentrating on the non-higher risk building market.
As a Graduate Building Regulations & Compliance Consultant, you will be an integral part of our team, assisting in ensuring that our projects comply with relevant building regulations, codes, and standards.
You will work closely with senior consultants and project managers to deliver exceptional service to our clients while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of building regulations and compliance while working on a diverse range of projects across various sectors including, high and low rise offices, warehouse and logistics, schools and education, healthcare and high-end residential.

Working across a variety of projects both autonomously and as part of a wider team, tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist and support consultant team with reviewing plans, drawings, specifications, and other documents submitted for approval to ensure they comply with building regulations and other related legislation
  • Support the consultant team with the inspection of buildings prior and during construction to verify compliance with regulations related to public health, fire safety, energy conservation, sustainability, and building accessibility
  • Advise and assist applicants on necessary changes to meet legal requirements of the building regulations (procedural and technical)
  • Attend project meetings with the project team and keep records of any actions required
  • Provide guidance to the team to support the building control application and technical support
  • Working with SOCOTEC’s existing client base, offering a new service as per the Building Safety Act and market changes
  • Organise project information and construction records
  • Proactive liaison with design teams to identify key hazards and interfaces with other designers
  • Facilitation of risk workshops for the project and working with individual designers to find suitable mitigation measures or a reduction of those risks to a more acceptable level
  • Building and maintaining current client relationships and assisting to build new client relationships
  • Providing guidance to legislation and responsibilities to Building Regulations duty-holders and client teams

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree Building Surveying, Architecture (with a preferred technical bias), Construction Management, Building Control or Quantity Surveying
  • A self-starting attitude and an ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong construction technical knowledge
  • Knowledge of building regulations, codes and standards
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within an Architectural Technician/Designer role/Surveying or Project management
  • Experience within Building Control or managing the building regulations process
  • An overview of construction procurement routes including design and build
  • An understanding of CDM procedures and associated legislation
  • Good understanding of the legal framework behind building regulations
  • Experience of working closely with the design team (Architects, Principal Designer and Design and Build Contractors)
