Hours: 37 hours per week
We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate to join one of our ICT Business Systems support teams. These teams provide a comprehensive range of ICT support services to the Council and its partners including the support, development and maintenance of a wide range of Corporate and Departmental application systems. This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate to start a career in ICT.
Building on your existing IT knowledge and with additional training provided by the Council, you will be part of a team providing support for one or more of the Councils ICT business application systems, investigating and resolving service desk calls raised by customers. You will also undertake systems administration tasks such as user access management, system configuration changes, and database refresh activities, ensuring that system documentation is kept up to date. There will also be opportunities to get involved in ICT development work such as integrations, interfaces and report development, plus system upgrades and patches. There will be opportunities to grow your knowledge and experience including training in new technologies as these arise.

You will also:

  • Take part and contribute to team, project and Divisional meetings.
  • Support other members of the team, taking on tasks as directed.
  • Use the knowledge of business systems to support other teams within ICT as required.
  • Advise and support customers in the business on the use of the business systems supported by the Team.
  • Follow all processes and procedures in use within the Team, the Division and wider Council.
  • Help maintain system documentation.

As well as a degree with a significant IT / Computer Science component, you will have:

  • A broad understanding of Information Technology including Information Systems concepts, software, databases and web technologies.
  • Experience of programming and of writing SQL.
  • Knowledge of or experience of testing techniques.
  • Knowledge of or experience of systems administration.
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers of varying levels of technical ability and experience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills .
  • The ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to use your own initiative to solve problems.
  • A logical and analytical approach to problem solving with strong attention to detail.
