We deliver a range of projects, technical survey services and building safety consultancy to the social housing sector, the NHS and other commercial sectors. Providing advice on all financial and contractual aspects of a project, from start to finish, considering procurement, materials costs, labour and whole life cost planning, reporting back to clients during the project allows informed decision making to take place, meaning our clients have full assurance that working with Pennington Choices guarantees they are doing the best they can to ensure compliance and safety within their buildings.
We have a unique opportunity to join our established project management and cost consultancy team as a Graduate QS/CA, as we embark on our ambitious next five year growth strategy.

Responsibilities:

The main purpose of the role will be to support on our QS and cost advisor commissions, taking responsibility for effectively delivering a range of tasks to our high quality standards.

Key accountabilities and Responsibilities include:

  • Customer Relationship Management – alongside the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will foster positive, productive and long-lasting relationships with each of our clients. You will be a point of client contact and as such have responsibility for both providing advice to clients on all aspects of quantity surveying and project management and for supporting the management of the relationship and contract that exists with each client. You will support on the mobilisation of new projects.
  • Operational Performance – you will ensure achievement of agreed operational performance targets in accordance with key business objectives, service plan objectives and contractual obligations with each and every client.
  • Commercial Performance – you will support the Senior Quantity Surveyor to ensure achievement of agreed financial performance targets (turnover, gross profit and net profit) in accordance with key business objectives and service plan objectives.
  • Projects – you will ensure the delivery of a range of projects to both housing providers and NHS clients nationally, ensuring we deliver a high quality service for our clients, with a high degree of quality and consistency.
  • Building Competency – you will be supported by the Senior Quantity Surveyor to ensure you continue to develop your competency and capability, delivering services to a consistently high standard.
  • Quality Control – you will ensure the consistent application of our agreed quantity surveying and project management processes, which align to RIBA stages 0 to 7. You will operate within our quality management and health, safety & well-being arrangements.
  • Auditing – you will operate within our robust quality auditing processes across the quantity surveying and project management team. 
  • Specific QS duties will include some or all of the following services: 

Support the Senior Quantity Surveyors at the project inception stage, including providing advice on the different approaches that can be adopted in order to successfully achieve the client’s overall objectives. 
Cost planning, including high level cost per m2, elemental cost per m2 and approximate quantities, estimates. 
Attendance and participation at design team meetings. 
Production of tender documentation, including specifications/schedules of work, bills of quantities and builder quants. 
Post-contract administration, including valuations, financial statements and final accounts. 

General correspondence and other ad hoc services as requested by the client.

  • Specific Cost Adviser duties will include some or all of the following services: 

Attendance and participation at project initiation workshops. 
Agreement of GMP & Risk Register costs, including audit of supply chain. 
Implementation of value engineering, supporting the quantity surveying team as necessary. 
Preparation of VFM reports, including benchmarking against historical cost data. 
Post-contract administration, including issuing contract documentation, valuations and responsibility for client specific scheme administration processes and reporting. 
Attendance and participation at meetings
