Job Title Graduate Submarines Systems Engineer
Location Barrow (Cumbria)
Start Date 7th April 2025
BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Graduate Programme you will be required to attend your site approximately 5 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Join our Submarines Team to be a part of designing, building, testing, and commissioning the largest and most advanced submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy. SKILLS

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Maths or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) degree.

As a Systems Engineering Graduate you could be working in a variety of roles across Dreadnought and SSNA [the replacement for the astute class of submarine] programmes. You will have the opportunity to get involved at all stages of a submarine’s life cycle, helping to support a wide range of activities such as capturing system requirements and helping to design, test and improve systems and subsystems on the submarine.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the capture, definition, analysis and management of requirements;
  • Supporting system design, analysis, testing, optimisation and integration activities;
  • Building virtual models of systems and subsystems;
  • Using tools and software (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Matlab, Simulink, JURA) to support activities at different stages of a system’s life cycle;
  • Supporting modelling and simulation activities;
  • Supporting system validation and verification activities (Did we build the right system and did we build it in the right way?).
