ABOUT PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE (PBT): Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has been Pittsburgh’s premier professional ballet company since 1969. Today, PBT is a nationally recognized ballet company of 36 professional dancers, a training institution for over 1,200 students of all ages, and an incubator for education and accessibility programs in classrooms, libraries and community centers throughout the region. The company, under the leadership of artistic director Adam W. McKinney and executive director Nicholas Dragga, performs a wide-ranging repertoire of classical ballets, contemporary masterworks and new commissions in nearly 50 performances annually. ABOUT THIS POSITION: The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is seeking a graphic designer who can, through development of images and media, convey the artistic vision of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. This position plays a key role in promoting the professional ballet company and school, the annual season, special events, growth and community outreach efforts by creating original visual content that aligns with PBT’s brand, mission and values. The graphic designer reports to the Director of Marketing.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: While no two days are quite the same, you can expect that your day will generally consist of the following primary responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of all visual content for the company including, but not limited to subscriber guides and tickets, program books, special event promotion, advertisements, website, billboards, social media graphics, photography, and projects for departments including marketing, development, dance & wellness, education and administration
  • Collaborate with the marketing team overseeing projects with vendors including printers, videographers, contracted photographers, contracted graphic designers, website designers, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Media Manager and School Marketing Manager to develop and maintain consistent brand standards for the organization, incorporating the look and feel of the Artistic Director’s creative vision for all visual content
  • Participate in content creation and revisions of the PBT website and social media platforms. This may include creation and editing of original visual content, photographs, etc.
  • Otherwise support the graphic design and creative services needs of the organization
  • Preferred: Act as in-house photographer for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Company, the School and special events, as needed (non-contracted)

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or similar field, required
  • Minimum two years of experience in a robust graphic design role, required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, project management skills with an ability to prioritize needs, required
  • Strong skill set with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, required
  • Ability to prioritize a varied workload and deliver projects on time and error-free, required
  • Photography creation and editing skills, strongly preferred
  • Experience photographing dancers and/or ballet dancers, preferred
  • Experience with Wordpress, preferred
  • Understanding of social media trends, preferred
  • Knowledge of or experience working in performing arts, preferred
  • General dance knowledge, preferred
