QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a three year Community College Diploma in Resource Management Technology, Forestry, Landscape Architecture, or related field of study, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related work experience.
  • Must be registered as a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
  • Experience with management of urban forests and green infrastructure, including the development and review of landscape plans.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

Responsibilities:

POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Program Manager, Urban Forestry is responsible for coordinating and supporting the review of environment assessments and detailed designs of Regional infrastructure projects, including VivaNext, development engineering applications and utility/corridor approval applications; receives, distributes and tracks the review and commenting on Regional infrastructure projects, external applications and comments directly and on select projects/applications as it relates to green infrastructure in Regional road allowances; leads the development/update of procedures, guidelines, specifications and standard details related to green infrastructure; assists management in the review and commenting on Municipal Streetscape Partnership applications and other strategic initiatives; liaises with staff in other departments and York Region Rapid Transit Corporation as it relates to green infrastructure.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordination and review of environmental assessment, details designs, development engineering applications and utility corridor approval applications.
  • Receives, screens and forwards documents to appropriate staff; and tracks status of reviews.
  • Provides quality assurance to ensure consistency in review and commenting by Division staff.
  • Develop contract documents, including detailed specifications and quantities utilizing detailed designs completed for landscape features in Regional road allowances.
  • Administer landscape construction contracts including quality assurance, progress tracking, liaison with contractor, preparation of payment, contract close out.
  • Maintains electronic catalogue or urban green infrastructure guidelines, standards and specifications and publish externally as required.
  • Liaises with government and non government agencies, contractors, developers, public etc. regarding technical, greening and urban forest promotional issues.
  • Liaises with Legal Services and Supplies and Services for the review and tendering of contracts
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
