KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Setting the direction for and playing a lead role in the development of the culture of the Maritime Team in alignment with SeaLink’s vision, mission and values.
  • Actively advocating SeaLink’s strategy and priorities, exercising influence where appropriate to successfully achieve outcomes.
  • Championing SeaLink’s Zero Harm Health & Safety culture. Ensuring crew complies with legislations and the correct plans are in place to protect all stakeholders.
  • Working in partnership with the Sales & Marketing Manager, review and develop the timetable to ensure the achievement of seamless operational outcomes.
  • Reviewing the performance of direct reports to ensure safe operation of vessels and all on board services in accordance with SeaLink’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring the rostering, learning and development of maritime employees are aligned to strategic objectives, and they have career paths and development opportunities for career progression and retention purposes.
  • Develop and implement the recruitment strategy for Maritime Operations in alignment with SeaLink’s recruitment strategy and in consultation with People & Culture.
  • In conjunction with the Sales and Marketing Manager, assists in the development and management of business plans, budget and resources to optimise vessel utilisation and fleet profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and develop and implement systems.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Group Maritime Operations Manager is a great example of a senior leadership role that straddles both strategic and operational responsibilities. Strategically, you will work alongside the management team to maximise shareholder growth and develop new business opportunities. Operationally, you will lead the maritime team to ensure our services are planned, scheduled and delivered on time. A key element of this will be the retention, performance and engagement of our diverse Maritime team operating across our locations – a total of 50+ direct and indirect reports.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Tertiary qualified or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10 years’ demonstrated experience in a senior roles, leading high-performing teams.
  • Extensive working knowledge and experience of NZ and international maritime law and compliance, including MOSS and SOLAS.
  • Team leadership – proven track record in leading and developing teams and creating engagement.
  • Track record of delivering innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in successful development and management of business plans and budgets.
  • High self-awareness – understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses, as well as empathy across all levels.
