HE ANGITŪTANGA: THE OPPORTUNITY
A well-managed Local Government is one of the seven priorities outlined in Auckland Council’s Long-Term Plan (LTP) 2024-2034. Group Shared Services (GSS) has been identified as a key strategy to achieve this goal, ensuring consistent, high quality, customer-focussed shared services. Group Shared Services aims to integrate common functions across the council group, eliminating duplication and ensuring consistent, high-quality shared services.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting the Director and the senior leadership team to deliver customer-focused quality services to the group.
You could expect to:
- Execute significant strategic and operational priorities, enable leaders to navigate through uncertainty and risk, and provide coordination and leadership during critical projects and changes.
- Anticipate, triage, and de-escalate emerging risks, ensuring quality delivery of advice and effective issues management to protect the group’s reputation and efficiency.
- Act as a key point of contact for the Director, coordinating communication, and ensuring timely and appropriate responses to requests.
- Use your external networks and awareness to provide business insights and integrate external perspectives into GSS.
- Lead strategic and commercial advice to support informed decision-making and planning, enhancing GSS ability to achieve its objectives.
- Facilitate Group Shared Services business planning; and performance reporting for the GSS Board, different entities and customers, ensuring all services are aligned and function cohesively.

HE KŌRERO MŌU: ABOUT YOU
You will need to have proven and extensive experience in similar roles from large and complex organisations, ideally within political environments. You will display a strong customer service ethic and a sense of personal ownership and responsibility.
We are looking for people with deep professional experience in the following areas:
- Solid understanding of local government context.
- Leading change and strategic initiatives within a large, multi-disciplinary organisations.
- Relationship building, with an ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and influence outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate conflicting priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate complex issues straightforwardly, to a range of stakeholders and audiences
