CAREER OPPORTUNITY

GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. is growing and has a new opportunity for an experienced Hardware Test Engineer who is passionate about validating cutting-edge sonar systems in a fast-paced environment. We build and test our systems in our Dartmouth factory and get them wet locally and globally, so this position requires in-person work at our facility and may present the opportunity for some field travel.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will lead the planning and execution of testing of end-to-end sonar systems from their submerged acoustic transducers to power and digital control electronics, hydrodynamic towed bodies, and mechanical overboarding systems. The Hardware Test Engineer will work with Systems Engineers and design experts to organize verification / validation activities that demonstrate compliance to system requirements. They will oversee and coordinate execution of the tests by technicians and field engineers. The Test Engineer will be focused on sonar system programs and will have the opportunity to support field activities such as sea trials. This role requires someone who is a critical thinker, proactive problem solver, and comfortable working across technical disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree engineering
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience
  • Experience in test engineering or other cross-disciplinary technical qualification roles
  • Experience with requirements management and verification / acceptance planning
  • Experience working with requirements and test management tools
  • Experience in the delivery of complex systems that contain electrical, mechanical, software, and data/networking interfaces
  • Experience with military standards, an asset
  • Professional Engineering designation, an asset
  • Candidates must have a social insurance number, have lived in Canada for the past five consecutive years, and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Responsibilities:

  • Lead compliance planning by deciding how to verify products against requirement categories such as environmental stressors, acoustic capability, system performance, user interface, and more. Capture in VCRM (Verification Cross Reference Matrix).
  • Collaborate with SMEs to develop test procedures which define test methods, specifications and performance requirements.
  • Manage resources, schedule, and risk by prioritizing early testing at the component or subassembly level rather than waiting for final integration.
  • Oversee execution of both simulated / component and fully integrated system tests.
  • Review requirements / specifications for testability
  • Report test results and recommendations to improve products based on these results.
  • Collaborate with designers on root cause analysis of issues that arise throughout testing.
  • Participate in the preparation and support of customer acceptance processes (factory acceptance test, sea acceptance test, etc).
  • Understand, communicate internally, and design testing as per specific design standards.
