Description:

Applications are invited for the position of Teaching Fellow in Natural Sciences to support development and delivery of IKC3 related courses, modules and micro-credentials. . This specific purpose contract Teaching Fellow position will assist with development and delivery of a new micro-credential Climate Leadership Development, a new postgraduate diploma in Geothermal Energy, and will assist with the running of already established courses (e.g. postgraduate certificate in Climate Entrepreneurship), and modules (e.g. undergraduate module Geoscience for a Sustainable Planet, and a Master’s module Environmental Entrepreneurship). The teaching role will be varied involving assisting with accreditation of the Geothermal Energy course, development of new lecture and practical material, set-up, demonstration and running of established practical classes, delivery of guest lectures in the broad field of the candidate’s research expertise, and tutorials, administration of online learning materials through Blackboard and marking of varied course assessment materials including continuous assessments and examinations.
IKC3 project
Ireland’s Knowledge Centre for Carbon, Climate and Community Action (IKC3), is funded through the Higher Education Authority’s Human Capital Initiative, Pillar (Innovation and Agility in Higher and Further Education). The project is a new collaboration between Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and Munster Technological University (Tralee campus), and involves a large number of enterprise partners. The IKC3 project’s vision is to provide education for the transition to a low carbon economy. This is achieved through three overarching pillars: (i) Lifelong Learning Programmes: green sustainable learning pathways, including programmes, modules and stackable micro-credentials, which are focused on advancing knowledge, skills, talents and climate leadership, (ii) Turas Learning Programmes: extracurricular challenge-based programmes that prepares master students, post-graduates, and early to mid-career professionals to lead the transformation that society needs in order to create a climate-resilient world, (iii) Deep Learning Demonstrations: Community-based learning initiatives designed to tackle multiple societal challenges in an integrated, holistic manner.
It is envisaged that the candidate’s research interests will compliment or strengthen ongoing research areas in the School of Natural Sciences. A good track record of publication is expected but duration in research will be taken into account for newly graduated PhDs. The candidate will be supported to compete for national and/or international research funding (e.g. SFI; EPA; Horizon Europe; ERC; DAFM) as part of this two year Teaching Fellowship position.
