Description:

Assist nursing team by setting up for clinical sessions, including trays and trolleys, preparing examination, treatment and consulting rooms, contributing to the health, safety and security of individuals and their environment. Prepare women for examination by the doctor, chaperoning when necessary. Assist women to dress and undress and with positioning as required. Promoting equality and anti-discriminatory practice and protecting individuals from abuse.
Ensure all women and their relatives are treated with respect and dignity. Report to the nurse in charge, any changes in womans condition or information given by the woman which is important to their treatment. Act in a professional manner Maintain accurate, clear, contemporaneous records including documentation of any cares given to women. Maintain and manage the use of online and paper patient records, ordering and collecting stock and leaflets, filing of records.
Answer the telephone, record, and deliver messages, referring to the trained nurse if in difficulty. Complete all administration tasks required to ensure that the department functions efficiently. Communicate clearly, keeping women informed of any delays or changes to appointment times. Undertake observation of pulse, blood pressure and temperatures and escalating findings to nursing staff.
To test urine samples for urinalysis and pregnancy tests. Transporting other specimens to the laboratory as required. To assist the clinical team by taking bloods on women. Care of linen and disposal of soiled linen, whilst being aware of hazards of cross infection.
Maintain tidiness within the department, clearing away equipment and ensuring it is securely stored at the end of session. Be aware of steps taken to safeguard the health and safety of staff, women and others reporting hazards to the nurse in charge in the department. Be aware of hospital policies, i.e. disciplinary, grievance, fire and major accident and manual handling.
Attend annual mandatory training. Assist in other departments as requested by the senior sister or Access Manager, being flexible in the hours and shifts worked to accommodate the needs of the department. Assist with obtaining, transmitting, and storing information related to the delivery of care. Participate in the movement of women and equipment between departments as required, supporting patients in transaction from one care setting to another.
