CMI - Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent organisation that works to prevent and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mediation. Founded in 2000 by Nobel Peace Laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari, we have since grown to be a leader in the field of international peacemaking.
CMI is now seeking a Head, Asia to join its regional Asia Team.
Your key responsibilities:
Leading the team and the development and implementation of CMI’s work in Asia region, including budget responsibility and approval rights
Leading and managing project teams in the region and ensuring responsible and efficient implementation of the overall work and related resources in a specific region/area, including also direct supervisor responsibilities
Representing CMI in the region and developing networks and partnerships
Contributing to the development of the overall CMI programme, monitoring and evaluation, communications and cross team working as part of CMI’s Management Team
New business development and strategic responsibility of fundraising for the work files in Asia
What we are looking for:
At least ten (10) years of demonstrated practical experience in a similar role, preferably in the field of international dialogue, mediation and/or peacebuilding. Understanding these dynamics in a specific region is considered an asset.
Demonstrated management skills and experience in leading teams;
A university degree in a relevant field.
A good understanding, practical experience and a demonstrated strong interest in issues related to conflict resolution/peace and security in Asia
Strong analytical and writing skills (both editing and production of written materials) as well as good IT skills.
Demonstrated change management skills, and ability to make decisions, to work under pressure and in a rapidly changing environment.
Excellent organisational and planning skills, creativity, conflict sensitivity and good political judgement.
Fluent written and spoken skills in English. Other language skills are considered as an advantage.

The Head reports to the Chief Programme Officer. This fixed-term position (2,5 years) is located in CMI’s office in Helsinki. The preferred starting date is 2 September 2024 or otherwise in early fall 2024 and will be set upon agreement. The position requires a work permit to work in the EU. CMI’s main working language is English.
