Job Summary
As the Head of Data Management and Governance for Global Markets within Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), you will lead the development and implementation of robust data governance and management strategies tailored to the specific requirements of the Global Markets business unit. Working closely with Global Markets Desks and Functions, you will define, prioritize, and oversee data initiatives aimed at ensuring data integrity, compliance, and usability across the organization. Your responsibilities will encompass managing the Global Markets data portfolio, establishing data ownership and stewardship frameworks, advocating for the reuse, and sharing of data assets, ensuring data quality, and ensuring compliance with relevant data legislations and regulations
Job Description
Data Quality Management:
Develop and implement a data quality framework with standards and processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data within Global Markets.
Establish data quality standards, metrics and monitoring mechanisms to continuously assess and improve data quality.
Provide guidance and support to data owners and stakeholders on data quality management best practices and tools specific to Global Markets.
Data Governance:
Implement data governance frameworks, including data attestation and data lineage, to ensure the integrity, security, and usability of data assets within Global Markets.
Define and enforce data ownership and stewardship structures and frameworks to establish clear accountabilities for managing and governing data assets.
Provide oversight and governance of data initiatives, ensuring alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Represent the business (GM) at Group & CIB Data Committees, forums and priority planning events leverage and socialise the nuanced data requirements for area of responsibility. Influence priority and consideration of these nuances in policy, data platform capability and practice design solutions, while ensuring alignment to policies, standards and governance mandate.
Lead the long-term refactoring of legacy data sources to help pay down data-oriented technical debt.
Markets Data and Regulatory Portfolio Oversight:
Oversee GM data and regulatory portfolio to ensure alignment with CIB data management strategy and data governance., as well as all compliance and regulatory obligations.
Monitor and report on the progress, benefits, and risks of data management and regulatory initiatives within Global Markets.
Provide guidance and support to data owners and stakeholders on data portfolio management and regulatory best practices and tools specific to Global Markets.
Business Case Development:
Lead the development and validation of business cases for data management and regulatory initiatives within Global Markets, ensuring alignment with CIB data strategy and business value proposition.
Facilitate the prioritization and approval of data management and regulatory initiatives within Global Markets.
Provide guidance and support to data owners and stakeholders on data management business case development best practices and tools tailored to Global Markets.
Data Asset and Data Product Landscape:
Define and maintain the Global Markets data asset and data product landscape, identifying cross-business unit data assets and data products that enable data-driven decision-making and innovation within Global Markets.
Promote the reuse and sharing of data assets and products across Global Markets.
Provide guidance and support to data owners and stakeholders on data asset and data product management best practices and tools specific to Global Markets.
Communication and Advocacy:
Communicate and advocate the Global Markets data management strategy to Global Markets senior leadership, business units, functions, and enterprise data governance.
Engage and influence key stakeholders and decision-makers within Global Markets to foster a data-driven culture and support data management initiatives.
Provide guidance and support to data owners and stakeholders within Global Markets on data communication and advocacy best practices and tools.
Compliance with Data Legislations and Regulations:
Ensure compliance with data legislations and regulations applicable to South Africa and other African countries where Global Markets operates.
Stay updated on changes to data legislations and regulations and ensure alignment with internal data governance policies and procedures.
Collaborate with compliance and legal teams to address data compliance requirements and regulatory inquiries.
Ensure efficient data management practices to collect, manage and maintain data required for operational management of regulatory controls, as well as for Regulatory Reporting across Global Markets.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree in a related field, e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Management Advantage DAMA certified.
  • 10-15 years working experience on projects related to data strategy / change.
  • Involved in building the Data Strategy / Practice capability in an organisation, preferably within the Financial Services industry.
  • Track record in portfolio management.
  • Desirable to have worked in a similar role in an Investment or Commercial Bank
  • Current working knowledge of data industry best practices
