Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by Australia’s Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the Queensland’s energy system. This is a multi-billion ($14b+) greenfield project that will deliver a world-class pumped hydro asset to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets of 70% renewables by 2032, 80% by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.

The Head of Assets and Engineering will be a critical member of the senior leadership team helping bring the purpose, strategic objectives and organisational values to life. The role takes a high-level strategic and portfolio view to the organisation, identifying and managing risks and opportunities in achieving the organisation’s strategic objectives.
You will effectively act as ‘Asset Owner’ through all phases of project development across the entire Program of Works for Queensland Hydro. This position will be directly responsible for ensuring that the built assets are safe and fit for purpose for operation over their entire life cycle. This position is also responsible for ensuring consistent engineering standards are applied across the entire Program of Works (including all engineering design management systems) such that strategic asset ownership decisions are consistent at the Corporation level.
This role will suit an experienced professional very familiar with pumped hydro engineering and related operational technical standards, projects and best practice. The role will have considerable interaction with OEMs, various consultancies and providers while providing strategic advice and guidance to the Executives, regulator and government.
