Description:

A unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced engineer to lead our high profile Clinical Engineering Team.
We are looking for a talented individual with a proven record of success to manage our comprehensive Trust-wide medical equipment maintenance and management service and to lead our medical device innovation activities. The post-holder will lead a team of over 80 staff and will bring extensive experience gained either in an NHS or a relevant industrial background.
You will be responsible for ensuring that our Clinical Engineering services rank amongst the best in the country and for creating new opportunities for innovation for patient benefit.
We are looking for a Chartered Engineer or registered Clinical Scientist with the ability to deliver excellent, strategic and operational leadership, and ideally with a combined experience of complex asset management and medical device development. You will have well-developed management skills and demonstrable ability to build and work within successful teams.
Our specialised medical equipment maintenance and management function is supported by a staff group of 70+, with a budget of £8.1M. It includes equipment ranging from basic monitoring to highly complex imaging and therapy equipment, with a value in excess of £100M. The post-holder will be responsible for the strategic planning of this service at organisational level. Our medical device innovation (MDI) workshops house complex electronic and mechanical equipment and services include innovative design and build, engineering and regulatory consultancy. We operate externally-audited Quality Management Systems, and as a leading centre, have a role in training the next generation of engineers.
The Trust hosts a highly successful NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (Devices for Dignity), which operates nationally and is supported by the MDI group. We also provide national leadership for 14 NIHR HealthTech Research Centres across England.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust is one of the largest and most successful healthcare employers in the UK. We offer fantastic development opportunities and there are always exciting initiatives for enthusiastic professionals. The city, England’s greenest, is vibrant and friendly, boasts two universities and is located on the edge of the Peak District.
