We are looking for a passionate Head of Engineering specialising in Australian registered vessels in AMSA NSCV Survey. Your technical talent and project management experience will be essential in owning the development, actualisation and continuous improvement of fleet major projects and dockings. This is your opportunity to lead our remote teams from a National level.

With our fleet of vessels operating nationally, you will provide regular onsite representation to our Business Unit technical teams, supporting major projects and operational objectives.

  • Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical support and develop the engineering capabilities within the Riverside Marine Head Office Technical team
  • Provide project management for dockings, major projects and vessel design upgrade projects.
  • Provide project management support, mentoring and instruction to Business Unit Superintendents (specification, design, engineering, scheduling, budget)
  • Work closely with General Managers to provide technical solutions
  • Support investigations and root cause analysis of vessel / systems failures
  • Foster a CI culture within the engineering team
  • Finalise the roll-out of the Sertica Planned Maintenance system
  • Provide support and leave coverage for Technical Superintendents across the Riverside Marine Group.
  • Support business units with the goal of having the best maintained fleet in the Australian maritime industry.
  • Develop and identify technical talent within the group

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marine Engineering and/or Engineer Class III
  • Project Management qualification – Diploma or higher (desirable)
  • Significant experience with AMSA NSCV statutory requirements (mandatory)
  • Significant experience in fleet superintendency including dockings and major projects

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of applicable AMSA NSCV DCV and Class rules and regulations.
  • Be able to provide examples of your ability to take a project from a conceptual discussion through the development phase and to a successful execution (safety, quality, budget, schedule).
  • Be expected to travel as required to Riverside’s business units across Australia for extended periods.
  • Have experience working with a diverse integrated fleet technical support unit.
  • Have substantial experience in dockyard project management.
  • Have inherent knowledge of naval architecture and design, including experience with quality assurance processes and production best practice.
  • Have extensive understanding of all vessel systems.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed technical specifications, procedures, bulletins, and reports.
  • Be an expert user of Microsoft applications and computerised asset management systems.
  • Have the ability to work autonomously and possess a sense of urgency.
  • Be process driven and possess a high level of attention to detail.
  • Have experience in design and engineering drawings for commercial (ie tug boats, work boats, barges, dredging) and passenger vessels (ie aluminum ferries, mono-hull transfer vessels).
