HOW WILL I HELP?

An exciting opportunity is available for a Head of Engineering to join Westpac and lead the engineering strategy and day to day management of Engineering functions.
This position will report to the CIO Consumer and will drive the engineering practice within the Consumer bank with dedicated focus as we look to centralise common engineering capabilities. The role will be part of leading the strategy for Westpac’s major transformation agenda, as well as continuing to grow a best in class engineering practice. The position plays a lead role to develop, manage and provide technical expertise for the Digital Service Request, Open Banking and Modular Banking initiatives. You will be pivotal in driving our north star of “Winning in engineering, innovation and customer outcomes” as we progress our multiyear technology simplification journey.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the technology strategy and decisions for components of our major transformation agenda,
  • Build a best in class engineering practice and effective team, empowering them to achieve their goals, including measuring and driving engineering performance
  • Operate strategically across Westpac with other stakeholders, understanding their needs and wants, and the relationship to engineering.
  • Put yourself in the shoes of the customer, understanding what they need and wantChallenge and uplift our engineering platforms, tools and ways of working

To be successful in this role, you need to have the following skills:

  • Track record of delivering on technology transformations with company-impacting scale and multi-year projects.
  • Extensive engineering leadership experience/ strong technical experience following Agile development processes, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering and a passion for getting involved in the details.
  • Ability to drive technical excellence, pushing customer first innovation, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Strong organisation and communication skills
  • Driving clarity from single line requirements and providing direction in an ambiguous environment.
  • A track record of strong execution and delivering results.Managing frontline engineering managers, architects and tooling vendors
