POSITION SUMMARY

As the Head of Policy & Governmental Affairs in Finland, you will lead the development and execution of our policy & governmental affairs strategy. Your role involves proactive engagement with key external stakeholders to position Bristol Myers Squibb at the forefront of the healthcare dialogue and market shaping. You will lead our External Affairs team which includes our local leadership, corporate affairs, and other relevant internal stakeholders, dedicated to supporting the implementation of the policy and governmental affairs strategy.
A primary focus of your policy advocacy will be to streamline the introduction of new medications, thereby improving patient access to innovative treatments and to enhance the operating environment for research and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement policy and governmental affairs strategy
  • Define strategic imperatives and key initiatives with clear project management and oversight.
  • Lead the Finnish External Affairs team in alignment with our strategic goals.
  • Active contribution to public discussions on social issues.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key government stakeholders and industry trade groups, representing the company and acting as a point of contact.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the company’s reputation and positioning as a preferred and impactful partner.
  • Educate BMS employees on our policy priorities and drive their implementation.

Key Capabilities:

  • In-depth understanding of local and EU healthcare policy environments and their implications for the innovative pharmaceuticals sector.
  • Skilled in fostering and sustaining relationships with key external parties.
  • Capable of distilling complex policy matters into clear, impactful communications.
  • Proven expertise in project management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant university degree in political science, social science, business, or public health
  • Strong proven experience working with external stakeholders, including civil servants, politicians, patient groups, and senior hospital managers
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking to understand and address stakeholder’s needs.
  • A proven record in strong verbal and written communication and of creative output
  • Experience in effectively and persuasively articulating complex issues to key decision makers (internal & external)
  • Extensive understanding of the healthcare system, healthcare policy, and wider external operating environment in Finland
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with relevant stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills in Finnish and English.
