Responsibilities:

As the Head of Marketing and Events, your role provides strategic leadership on how we promote STFC’s products and services to businesses of all sizes from start-ups to large enterprise and communicate the impact of the organisation’s work back to key partners (internal and external). Our success is not monetary but measured on how our work supports the growth of UK businesses and in turn the country’s economy. Our currency is the success stories we are able to tell.
Working as part of a marketing and events team based in Oxfordshire and the Liverpool City Region, the role involves writing and delivering on business-to-business (B2B) marketing plans across multiple sectors and initiatives, in line with wider STFC and UKRI strategy. The role requires an advanced level of professional specialism and significant experience of B2B marketing, ideally in a multi-stakeholder science and technology environment. The core objectives of the role are to:
Develop and deliver a marketing strategy for STFC’s significant and dynamic offer to industry.
Lead the Marketing and Events team and direct their activity to ensure delivery against strategic objectives, as well as being responsible for their professional development and well-being. The Marketing and Events team comprises specialists in marketing and communications, and events, and handles all industry-facing events for STFC. The team is geographically dispersed across UK regions, and its remit spans STFC’s industry-facing activities at Harwell (Oxfordshire), Daresbury (Liverpool City Region) and ROE (Edinburgh).
Support STFC’s corporate objective of raising the profile of STFC externally.
Lead stakeholder relationships to ensure the marketing strategy is delivered coherently across multiple partners and platforms. Internally, partners span across multiple departments within STFC and UKRI, across several locations, and externally key partners include ESA, CERN, and STFC’s campus Joint Venture partners.
You will represent STFC with key partners and build good links (national and international). The organisational culture is highly collaborative and involves working well with others, listening to feedback and being inclusive in working on projects. It is also important that you are able to demonstrate leadership in your skills and knowledge, clearly articulating why a particular direction should be taken from a marketing standpoint.
Knowledge of market segmentation and positioning is advantageous, as is experience of demonstrating a Return on Investment for marketing activity particularly across digital channels. The successful candidate will understand how to create a value proposition that clearly articulates how STFC’s products and services support business challenges. Experience working in a technology or science environment would be advantageous.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to use your initiative and be creative are crucial in this role, as well as a can-do and positive demeanour. The activity this role involves is diverse and involves juggling multiple projects simultaneously – you are organised and able to prioritise.
