The Opportunity
Join our Retail team in this key position as Head of Software Engineering and play a pivotal role in technological leadership and innovation within the Technology and Analytics team. You’ll work primarily across the Digital and Salesforce ecosystems, and lead the development and delivery of software solutions, ensuring that projects align with Vocus’ strategic goals and meet quality standards.

What you’ll be doing day-today

  • Drive performant, scalable, and forward-thinking solutions and act as a thought leader in the Digital and Salesforce space, ensuring Vocus embraces new technologies and methods for software delivery.
  • Establishing the organisation’s overall applications strategy, ensuring code quality, technical alignment and development methodology.
  • Analysing business development requirements and evaluating external providers’ proposals to determine their suitability and participating in long and medium-term decisions concerning the organisation’s IT strategy and direction.
  • Overseeing the planning, sizing, and scheduling of systems development projects.
  • Negotiation of the price, terms and conditions for the purchase and use of software.
  • Cultivating and maintaining a world-class development facility that can accommodate varying workloads.

What you’ll bring to this role

  • 10+ years of experience in IT or project delivery.
  • 7+ years’ experience with the Salesforce platform.
  • 5+ years managing software teams highly desired.
  • Solid understanding of business needs and customer focus beyond the technical/technology aspects.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management.
  • Strong ability to converse with end-users and IT employees at all levels of the organisation.
  • Expert understanding of all aspects of the systems/software development lifecycle.
  • Technical knowledge of programming, system design, IT infrastructure and database concepts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Outstanding ability to analyse, isolate and interpret business needs and develop appropriate technical solutions.
  • Outstanding technical specification writing/documentation skills.
  • An appreciation of both IT and business strategy.
  • Strong customer experience focus.
  • Advanced knowledge of business process re-engineering.
