The role:
As a Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll lead and coordinate the health & safety activities across our business within NZ and Australia. Holmes has 6 offices and two physical testing facilities within NZ, one of which includes furnace testing, destructive physical testing, steel fabrication and testing at heights; the other of which involves mainly crash testing of roadside hardware systems. The office-based personnel typically have safety in design responsibilities on projects and are frequently involved in construction monitoring of active construction sites, on behalf of our clients. Sites are a mix of buildings and infrastructure facilities. We also have a small Australian team located in Sydney & Melbourne who are primarily office based.
You’ll be tasked with providing specialist input into Health & Safety issues that may arise, assess and communicate risks, analyse data and provide reports to our Boards, and train and mentor our people, amongst other key tasks. You’ll have the support of a highly engaged Health & Safety leaders’ network across the organisation to assist with incident, accident, near miss reviews along with championing and embedding best practice health and safety initiatives.
You’ll be a credible Health & Safety professional with experience working within a multi-site and at times, complex environment. You’ll be able to engage and influence with people across all levels of our business, forming trusting relationships. The nature of the role will require you to travel occasionally, including going out on site visits.
What we’re looking for:

The ideal candidate will be passionate about Health & Safety and have:

  • a sound understanding of the relevant Health & Safety legislation in both New Zealand and Australia.
  • a relevant tertiary qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • 3-4 years’ experience in in an Advisory role (preferably in an engineering consultancy environment)

The benefits:

  • Hybrid work options available.
  • Continual professional development and career conversations
  • Health, life and income protection insurance
  • Discretionary profit share and high-performance bonus opportunities

If you want to be a part of a vibrant, fun culture – then Holmes is the place for you. We have something for everyone – join one of our sports teams such as touch, indoor netball, or football and partake in a wide range of social functions throughout the year like quiz evenings or our yearly Winter Ski trip. We’re a friendly, relaxed team that loves getting stuck into great projects, with plenty of fun and good times along the way.
If you’re ready for a new challenge and keen to take the next step in your career, we’d love to hear from you.
