Description:

Within the role of a health care assistant in Endoscopy, we will be providing care to patients who attend the unit for endoscopic procedures.

WORKING IN ENDOSCOPY YOU WILL:

  • welcome patients to the unit when they arrive.
  • care for patients during their endoscopic procedures.
  • care for patients while they are recovering from their endoscopic procedures.
  • work within the decontamination area cleaning and caring for the endoscopes.
  • transport patients to wards or other areas within the hospital.
    We provide acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Maternity Services are also provided at Stroud Maternity Hospital.   • Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy.

  • Perform and record clinical observations with competency including blood pressure, temperature, respiration’s and pulse.

  • Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate Registered Care professionals.

  • Report to appropriate registered care professional information received from the individual, carers and members of the team
  • Communicate with individuals, carers and other visitors in a courteous and helpful manner, whilst being mindful that there may be barriers to understand.
  • Promote health and safety maintaining best practice in health, safety and security.
  • Share ideas with colleagues to improve care and suggest areas for innovation.
  • Participate in audit activities being undertaken in area of practice
  • Frequently use concentration and experience work patterns which are unpredictable with regular interruptions, some requiring immediate response.
  • Maintain a professional approach while working in challenging, distressing situations or dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Support individuals, their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life changing diagnoses.
  • Have exposure to VDU screen
  • Regular interruptions from enquiries and / or changing patient needs.
  • Possible activity changes requested by the multidisciplinary team due to changing priorities.
  • Exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances and / or behaviours.
  • Exposure to unpleasant bodily fluids.
  • Use frequent moderate effort when undertaking carrying out the manual handling of individuals and equipment in line with organisational guidelines.
  • Use skills of manual dexterity and manipulation of clinical instruments and equipment.
  • Use a combination of standing, walking bending and stretching throughout the shift.
  • Will be required to work within the recognised Manual Handling Guidelines.
  • May be required to work in confined space.
  • Working within decontamination, which you will receive full training for.
